(21) $358,283 for the installation of fiber optic cable and related equipment on the campus of the Greenwood Genetic Center;
Funding will provide telecommunications infrastructure and equipment to allow the Greenwood Genetic Center to securely and efficiently transfer large data files related to genetics research and clinical services. The addition of the Clemson Center for Human Genetics in the Greenwood Research Park has created the opportunity to connect to a 10 gigabits per second network, greatly enhancing the Center’s computational and communication capabilities. The Greenwood Genetic Center, a not for profit organization established in Greenwood in 1974, provides clinical genetics services, diagnostic laboratory testing, educational programs and resources, and research in the field of medical genetics. The Center provides clinical services to approximately 6,000 patients per year and performs nearly 25,000 laboratory tests annually. The Center currently employs 175 people.
